Newconomics 2023 - Meet our Speakers: Yan Ketelers

2 min read

If you’re joining us in Lisbon for the Newconomics event, you have plenty to look forward to, from the hackday, to the speakers and panels and of course the networking opportunities. One of our amazing speakers is Yan Ketelers, CMO of Polkastarter, the early-stage fundraising platform for web3 projects. We asked him to share his enthusiasm and experience for the blockchain and beyond.

Web3 and the Future of Work: A Seamless Cross-Border Experience

“To me, web3 is a disruptive economic technology, a new and more efficient way to exchange and decentralise stuff that should be decentralised like data, finance and investing. It goes beyond this though, it’s also a cultural shift which has unlocked digital ownership and accessibility to financial instruments and innovation that we have not seen before.

I see so many opportunities relating to web3 tech, especially when it comes to finance. The future of fundraising, digital ownership of things like art, music and shares can work in new ways but also offer opportunities to include supporters when it comes to decision making and successes. Web3 technology offers accessibility to everyone who wants to participate which is a better status than the one we are currently living in.

Though I do feel optimistic, I am also aware that we have some way to go to make web3 appealing and useful to everyone. Regulation is still unclear, UX is not always great and FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) is enormous when it comes to encouraging new users and traditional businesses to innovate in this area. But these problems are not insurmountable, and with our accelerator program, we know that on the one hand you have many projects working towards improvements. And on the other, projects that are constantly innovating and building the protocols and user applications of tomorrow.

There are areas of the future of work that, I think, would benefit from web3 solutions. From cross-border payments, streamlining foreign tax regulation and creating faster payments for work done - all of this would make everyone’s working life easier and fairer. It’s an exciting place to innovate and there are already communities around projects or NFTs that are really inspiring and generating tools to collaborate like DeWork. Also DAOs are paving the way for this new type of collaboration and rewarding.

Ideally borders will disappear, everyone will be able to support projects they love by doing micro or macro tasks depending on what suits them best and they’ll be fairly rewarded."

Find out more about the new economics of Web3 and how it can change the way we work together at the Newconomics event in Lisbon. Full details and registration can be found on the website.
