For many, 2020 will forever be linked with the pandemic, lockdowns, and curfews. Yet, for Courtney X., the year took on a unique significance. During the lockdown, her 4-year-old son began experiencing unexplained pain. She promptly took him to a pediatrician, but the doctor couldn't pinpoint the problem. She consulted another pediatrician, but to no avail. Three years and 17 specialists later - spanning pediatricians to dentists and therapists - a doctor emerged with a potential diagnosis. After relaying detailed information about her son's condition and sharing MRI results, ChatGPT proposed the possibility of a "tethered cord syndrome". Struck by the accuracy of the diagnosis, Courtney dived deeper into research. She soon discovered a Facebook group for parents with children suffering from the same syndrome, noticing eerie similarities with her son's condition.

Thanks to ChatGPT's insights, a neurosurgeon later validated the diagnosis — a specialist Courtney might never have consulted without the chatbot's guidance.
